A sound piece

I have to admit I like making sound pieces.  I have an extremely rudimentary knowledge of Audacity and usually mess about with it until I get something that doesn't bore or deafen the listener.

This is the sound piece for Nottingham - the splendidly named Totius Orbis in Manu Nostra.  And if you translate that from the Latin, you will get the source for the piece.

A little drawing

A little bit of a hybrid this one - I drew around a doll's leg that I found on the beach and then added a pattern that I am fond of drawing at the moment.  I like drawing around things a lot. I might do a few more of these.

New Work for Nottingham

For the past few weeks, I have been thinking about and making (I use the term very loosely here) an installation for the Kunstpodium T exhibition in Nottingham.  This is a group exhibition and is part of the Aprrentice/Master Project which paired together emerging artists from colleges all over Europe with 'Master' artists in order to hold a series of exhibitions.

I will be exhibiting at the Backlit Gallery in Nottingham, UK with two Dutch artists Gerrit Bruins and Michelle Verscheijden, a Belgian artist, Bram Demunter, and our Master artist, Geoff Diego Litherland.  Our exhibition is called 5 Points of Connection and opens on March 5th.

The installation uses as its starting point Nottingham city and my recollections as a child of Nottngham Forest winning the European Cup in 1978.  I make connections from there as far as Tilburg, whose football team my grandfather, (the splendidly named Fred Fitton), coached from 1948 - 50.  Along the way I got to know a lot more about him and also a little bit more about how I like to make work as this was the first sizeable chunk of work I have done without a tutor peering over my shoulder.

I didn't make any prints but did employ a commercial printer and used repetition throughout.  Altogether there are 6 pieces:-

an altered analogue photograph, reproduced 250 times and screwed into paper balls
a handwritten account from Wikipedia of Maradona's 1986 'Hand of God' goal, reproduced on red paper 250 times and screwed into paper balls
a red wall, composed of 2000+ red cards
25 different digitally altered analogue photographs of my grandfather with Longa, the Tilburg team he coached
a photograph of goal posts from my home town of Kilmacthomas, 2015
and
a sound piece which you can listen to here or the link is here:-

I will of course be posting images from the show itself, which, now that the work is underway, I'm really looking forward to.
